COURSE DETAILSThe College is an ISTD approved Dance Centre and offers two or three year courses for students training for the teaching or theatrical professions. The teaching course covers the Foundation in Dance Instruction (FDI) and Certificate in Dance Education (CDE). We work to a four term year, each term being of ten weeks. Students work from 9.30 am to 4.00pm each day, Monday to Friday. Teaching practice and additional classes are run in the evenings. It is to the benefit of students if they make use of these facilities. |
A TWO YEAR TEACHER TRAINING AND THEATRE COURSEThe Foundation of Dance is aimed primarily at candidates of 17 years of age, who have achieved ISTD examinations up to Intermediate level and who wish to prepare for the Certificate in Dance education to become teachers of Dance. The Foundation of Dance instruction has been submitted to the QCA at Level 3 on the National Qualification Framework, and is roughly equivalent to ‘A’ Level standard. The QCA Accreditation number is 100/4788/8 This course includes a full training encompassing all forms of Dance plus a singing module. Students study: Classical Ballet with the Royal Academy of Dance and Imperial Society, Modern/Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Audition Technique and Singing. Examinations are taken in most of the above subjects. A THREE YEAR TEACHERS TRAINING COURSEStudents take examinations leading to the Certificate of Dance Education. Candidates must be of 18 years of age and have already achieved dance examinations up to Advanced 1 level and taken the Foundation of Dance. On completion of this course, successful candidates are able to teach and enter pupils for examinations in the ISTD in their chosen specialist genre, (ballet, Modern ,Tap) in which they have qualified. The Certificate of Dance Education has been accredited at Level 4 on the National Qualification Framework. The successful combination of both academic and practical teaching, has led to the Bristol College of Dancing achieving some of the highest examination grades in the South West. PART TIME MODULAR COURSESClasses can be selected from the College’s timetable to enable professional dancers or part time workers to study towards their teaching qualifications.
